News: NCDMB seeks end to oil industry capital flight

The Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board has stressed the need for stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to stop capital flight and build additional local capacities.

The board said there were laudable projects stakeholders could embark on to create thousands of employment opportunities for Nigerians and end capital flight.

The Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Mr. Denzil Kentebe, said this when he unveiled the spool yard for Glass Reinforced Epoxy (pipes) of Bell Oil and Gas in Port Harcourt.

The spool yard, the first of its kind in Nigeria and Africa, worth over $4m, would help to provide immediate solutions to various oil and gas projects onshore and offshore, the NCDMB boss said.

GRE pipes are a valid alternative to carbon steel pipes especially for corrosive, aggressive and normal environments, and the technology is based on the continuous filament winding process using high strength fibre glass and amine-cured epoxy resin as basic material, according to the company.

Kentebe said the facility was capable of creating thousands of employment for Nigerians and ending capital flight in the oil and gas industry.

The job creation opportunity and in-country capacity building for the spool yard, he noted, was documented and recorded with the training and certification of over 70 Nigerian engineers in the last 24 months.

“In the last 54 years of oil exploration in Nigeria, if in every 24 months we have been training 70 Nigerians, you know how many Nigerian engineers we would have produced today in the oil and gas industry. But this is the beginning, and I am sure with the support of the NCDMB and industry operators, Bell Oil and Gas will continue to make us proud,” he said.

He observed that a lot of restiveness in the Niger Delta region and insecurity issues would have become a thing of the past if each oil and gas company had been training a minimum of 70 Nigerian every 24 months.
