Ahmed Musa marks new Russian League season with goal
The Super Eagles forward’s goal helped the Krasno-sinie seal their first win of the season against Rubin Kazan on Saturday evening
Nigeria international Ahmed Musa scored in the Russia Premier League new season as CSKA Moscow edged rivals Rubin Kazan 1-0 on Saturday.
Musa’s 87th minute strike was all the Leonid Slutsky’s men needed to pin down Rinat Bilyaletdinov’s side at the Arena Khimki.
The hosts dominated from the start and created a series of chances in front of their home supporters with midfielders Pontus Wernbloom and Zoran Tosic hitting the woodwork on three occasions between them in the first half.
The 2014 champions squandered further chances after the break before Musa received a clever back-heel by Georgi Milanov in the area and crashed the ball past goalkeeper Sergei Ryzhikov with three minutes to go.
The Nigerian is expected to lead his side’s front line against Sparta Prague in the Champions League third qualifying round later this month.
