A former Governor of Lagos State and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has reaffirmed his loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also said he respected and believed in the President.Buhari’s success at the recent presidential poll was largely attributed to the support he got from Tinubu.
The former governor, on Wednesday morning, had posted on Twitter some of the photographs he took alongside Buhari and the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
A solo post, saying, “I believe in what the President believes. I respect him and I stand firmly loyal,” followed the photographs.
In a matter of hours, hundreds of comments from supporters of the party leader as well as his critics followed the post.
The tweet, which went virile across various social media platforms, including Facebook, received hundreds of favourites by evening.
Discussions around the post, once again, brought to fore the role Tinubu played during the merger of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and the Congress for Progressive Change as well as the presidential election campaign.
“I respect your courage and, as a matter of fact, you led the common sense revolution which has brought us the change we all want,” one Ayinde tweeted.
Another tweeter, Isaac Abiodun, said Tinubu’s post was timely as it assured party members that the team spirit that helped the APC to achieve victory at the recent general elections was intact.
Tinubu’s Twitter handle has been quite active in the past two months. In some of his recent posts, he expressed his commitment to building the country’s democratic culture.
Through personal sacrifices, according to him, the country’s democracy will survive.
“My years of political experience, the intensity and the sacrifices made by each of us have prepared me for the best and worst of times.
“I hold an abiding fate in the superiority of democracy over other forms of government. Nigeria’s democracy will survive, but sacrifices must be made,” he posted.
The former governor, who said “the people” remained the focus of the current administration, noted that the APC would try to keep to its promises.
Tinubu, on the occasion where they took the photographs, had declared that he had not made any demand on Buhari since his becoming the President.
“I have no demands. If you understand what party politics and leadership is all about, it is about loyalty and commitment to the values, which the leadership believes in.
Similarly, a post by the Publisher of The Ovation, Dele Momodu, on his meeting with Buhari, caused a stir on Wednesday.
Momodu, a former presidential candidate, took to his Instagram page to narrate his encounter with the President.
He said, “I told the President that I appointed myself a free adviser to various presidents. But unfortunately they saw critics as enemies.”
Meanwhile, a former House of Representatives member from Lagos State, Abike Dabiri, has joined in the debate over the controversial closure ofRadio Biafra by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation.
Abike, an ex-broadcaster, advised the corporation to do its job without further delay.
“Why is it taking the NBC so long to jam Radio Biafra? It is quit deceptive. Do what you need to do. Be efficient,” Abike tweeted on Wednesday amid an online controversy over the status of the broadcasting outfit, which many have described as illegal.
